Adamson and Ateneo-OraCare take on separate rivals today (Friday), both looking for all-important victories to force a three-way tie for third with Far Eastern U at the close of the quarterfinal roundof the Shakey’s V-League Season 6 at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Falcons and the Lady Eagles tote identical 6-5 slates and are trying to catch the Lady Tams, who finished the quarters with a 7-5 card, in third place for a crack at the semis berths.
Between the two, however, Adamson appears to have the inside track at the Final Four seat as it is fancied over the ousted St. Benilde side at 2 p.m.
In contrast, Ateneo will have its hands full in its 4 p.m. encounter with first semifinalist UST, a team which swept the elims and wound up with an impressive 10-1 card.
San Sebastian took the No. 2 spot in the Final Four with an 8-4 slate.
To clinch the No. 3 seat, Adamson must limit St. Benilde to a total of 56 points with FEU and Ateneo, provided it prevails over UST, disputing the fourth and last semis berth in a one-game playoff.
The Eagles can also notch the third spot but it must hold the Tigresses to 51 points, a tough task given the form the Espana-based squad has been dishing out in the tournament sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza.
Still, Ateneo will be going flat out to beat UST and force a playoff for the last seat in the semis of the league organized by Sports Vision and backed by Accel, Mikasa, Mighty Bond and OraCare.
Fille Cainglet, Angeline Gervacio, Denise Acevedo and Gretchen Ho will carry the cudgels for the Eagles, who are reeling from the absence of top hitter and alumna Charo Soriano, against a talented UST side led by Aiza Maizo, Angeli Tabaquero, Maika Ortiz and Maruja Banaticla.
Games can be viewed live on webcast on http://www.v-league.ph. NBN-4 will air the matches on a delayed basis starting at 2 p.m. the following day.
